Jason here. Thank you for participating in the last post. Team Mike won and we are working on a large hardcover art book because you made your voices heard. Since building this book with you all is so fun, I thought we should keep this going.
Picking favourites
I made a spreadsheet of all Mike’s Marvel covers and I’m at 321 covers. We can’t fit that many covers in a good-sized book so some covers will need to be cut. So I must know:
What are your favourite Marvel covers by Mike?
We are focusing on Marvel-specific characters (Sorry Star Wars) and your responses will help with what must be included. Let us know in the comments or chat.
How do you like your Art Books?
Do you like art books with complete runs on books (for example: all 24 covers of X-Men Legacy) or do you like more process art like preliminaries and sketches (and fewer covers)?
We appreciate all this feedback and this book will be a lot of fun!
Thank you Fan Expo
Thank you to everyone who came out to Fan Expo Canada. It was so nice to meet you all and if you bought from our table, we appreciate you. It was so nice to see your faces light up at all the stickers. Mike says we are in the happiness business (and I make fun of him) but he’s right. It was nice to have people come up to the table and say their friends told them to come check out our table. Mike participated in Comic Explosion which is a paint night for artists but with the intensity of Iron Chef (we just needed the music and Chairman). The artists were prepared with a plan, and the right art tools and it was incredible to see what they could do in an hour. Mike said the live performance aspect reminded him of his b-boy days.
Thank you to Kevin and the team for having us and for the hospitality. Thank you RAID for a great party and here’s proof of me having fun.
Just Do It
Mike is doing a run of covers for Flash for DC Comics and it’s exhilarating to see his take on DC characters. From Mike: “My first DC cover for FLASH #15 and what a better way to start this series then with my fellow X-Men Legacy hombre, @sispurrier get ready for some similar vibes. It’s gonna be fun.”
Which DC characters should he draw next?
Treehouse of Fun
Mike was at Treehouse Collectibles this Saturday September 21st in Toronto where he joined Jeff Lemire, Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo. Thank you to Treehouse Comics for the hospitality and the comics!
By the Way
Last year we met Omar who wanted to create a comic book and cocktails shop. This idea was so cool that we had to visit, so when Wayside Comics opened its doors last year we were there.
Omar kicked it up a notch and now he’s organizing a convention in a brewery! If you’re in the Greater Toronto area, come by and check it out.
Coming out this month
Frankenstein #2 is in stores. Comic Book Invest was nice enough to name it their top cover of the week. We also have copies in our store if you need a signed copy.
Ultimate X-Men #7 came out last week and AIPT named it their cover of the week.
and finally, Araña variant is available in the MARVEL SNAP!
That was a lot… I need a coffee. Until next time!
- Jason Does Stuff Too
Mystique and the photo-copier. All-time fave.
I think it would be cool to do volumes and just start at the beginning. Cover 1 thru whatever in volume 1, then so on. We're all here for Mike's art, so I think having all the marvel covers would be dope
